FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority)

Regulatory body for food safety requiring annual returns from food businesses.

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an autonomous statutory body under the Ministry of Health that regulates food safety in India.

FSSAI registration types:

  • Basic Registration - Small manufacturers (turnover up to Rs 12 lakhs)
  • State License - Medium businesses (turnover Rs 12-20 lakhs)
  • Central License - Large businesses (turnover above Rs 20 crores)

All licensed food business operators must file an annual return (Form D1) by May 31.
