ESI (Employees State Insurance)

Social security scheme providing medical and cash benefits to employees.

Employees' State Insurance (ESI) is a social security and health insurance scheme for Indian workers. It provides medical, disability, maternity, and unemployment benefits.

ESI contribution:

  • Employer - 3.25% of gross salary
  • Employee - 0.75% of gross salary

Applicability:

  • Establishments with 10+ employees in most states
  • Employees earning up to Rs 21,000 per month

Benefits include:

  • Free medical treatment at ESI hospitals
  • Sickness benefit during medical leave
  • Maternity benefit for women
  • Disablement benefit for work injuries
  • Dependent benefit for families of deceased workers
